Arnstein Mykletun is a senior researcher at the Institute of Public Health, professor II at the Department of Community Medicine at the University of Tromsø, head of research at the Competence Center for Work and Mental Health at Nordlandssykehuset and head of the research group Psychiatric Epidemiology and Health Service Research at Helse Bergen HF. Mykletun led the expert group set up by the government which on 3 February 2010 gave advice on reducing sickness absence, and which formed the basis for the commitment to graded sickness absence in the IA agreement. Mykletun is a clinical psychologist and sociologist and has a PhD in epidemiology. He has received the Meltzer prize for younger researchers and Åse Gruda Skard's prize for popularizing psychological knowledge. Mykletun has participated in the public debate with contributions on work and welfare issues, and also on people's assessment of risk, also related to terrorism.
